Which is better for hospitals: connected or separate systems?

Connected systems can make hospital operations easier to coordinate because information can move between relevant workflows without excessive manual intervention. Separate systems may still be appropriate when they provide specialized capabilities, but too many disconnected applications can create information silos and repetitive work. A healthcare operating system takes the connected approach by bringing clinical, operational, financial, and patient workflows closer together. Hospitals should nevertheless evaluate interoperability, security, performance, cost, and customization before making a decision. The goal should be reliable information flow and efficient workflows rather than simply reducing the number of software products.
